Federal investment in ibogaine research is domestic and accelerating: a Stanford-led study in Nature Medicine on 30 Special Operations veterans, a $50 million Texas state appropriation for clinical trials, a Department of Defense authorization to fund psychedelic research for active-duty service members under NDAA Section 723, and an April 2026 Trump administration executive order directing federal agencies to fast-track ibogaine review. At the same time, ibogaine remains Schedule I under federal law, the Department of Veterans Affairs does not fund or facilitate treatment, and clinical access for individual veterans still requires international travel — typically funded by veteran-focused nonprofits like VETS Inc. and Heroic Hearts Project.
